Three days training cum input distribution programme on “Livelihood Improvement of tribal farmers through pig production in Integrated farming system” under TSP

        The ICAR Mizoram Centre, Kolasib conducted three days training cum input distribution during 26th- 28th September, 2024. The programme was organized under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP). The training was inaugurated by the HoRC, Dr. S. Doley, ICAR, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib. During the inauguration, Dr. S. Doley welcome all the participants and highlighted the Scenerio of pig farming in North East, India with special reference to Mizoram and brief about the importance of pig production in Integrated farming system to increase the production and productivity of the farm.
        A total of 16 farmers from Khuangpuilam, Phainuam, Bukvannei, Meidum and Saiphai villages of Kolasib district participated in the training programme. Various topics were covered in this training programme like Scientific pig farming for sustainable livelihood in Mizoram, Health management for profitable pig farming, diseases of pig and their bio-security measures, Crop and crop by-products for animal feeds, Fish cum livestock based Integrated farming system for livelihood improvement of Mizo farmers, Nutrient management for improving soil and crop productivity, Agriculture-Horticulture-Livestock-Pisciculture based integrated farming system for Rural Livelihood in high altitude area of Mizoram etc. Several inputs including 30 piglets, 400 kg of pig feed and medicines were distributed to the farmers during the training programme. Experts from ICAR Mizoram Centre delivered lectures during the three days training programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Lalhruaipuii, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Microbiology), Dr. Blessa Sailo, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Public Health), Mr. P.L. Lalrinsanga, Scientist (Aquaculture), Dr. Lungmuana, Senior Scientist (Soil Science) and Dr. Vanlalruati, Senior Scientist (Floriculture/Horticulture) with the technical assistance from Dr. Samik Chowdhury, Technical Officer (GKMS) and Vanthawmliana, Met. Observer (GKMS).
